Detailed Itinerary

Materuni Waterfall

The day starts with a pick-up from your lodge in Arusha or Moshi and drive to Materuni village, a village nested on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The village is inhabited by Chaga people, speaking the Changa language.

Here you will experience authentic country-side lifestyle; the Chaga are farmers who cultivate mixed crops on arable soils of Mount Kilimanjaro slopes. Their main crops are coffee (cash crop) and banana (staple food).

On arrival to the village, a local guide will lead you to the waterfall, about an hour trek. Along the way he will experience nice landscapes, homes, people undergoing their daily activities and plantations with mixed crops; coffee, yams potatoes and bananas. The waterfall is 70 meter high and is at 2500 meters above sea level.

At midday you will be treated with Chaga tribe traditional meal before attending a traditional coffee processing class; you will make your own cup of coffee from raw coffee beans. At around 16h0, the guide will drive you back to your lodge in Arusha or airport.

 

Mount Meru Waterfall

Although there are several waterfalls on volcanic slopes the second highest mountain in Tanzania, Mount Meru Waterfall is remarkable. Located a few Kilometres from Arusha city is an 80 metres intense waterfall that spray water with an incredible force at the base.

The adventure starts with starts in Arusha city; vehicle, motorbike, bicycle or just walking will take you there because the distance is about 5 kilometres from the city. At the beginning you will experience as steep and rocky road followed by a jungle stairway that leads you down into the gorge. Once inside the gorge, you wade through the rocky river until you meet Mount Meru waterfall. This is a moderately difficult hike and most people make successful tours to the site.

 

Marangu Waterfalls

Marangu waterfalls are ones of numerous waterfalls on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro; the highest mountain in Africa. The waterfalls are located alongside the famous Marangu route that takes hikers to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

A combination of short treks to waterfalls, coffee plantation tours and exploration of Chagga caves will satiate your day. The day is usually supplemented with a Chagga traditional lunch, traditional coffee processing class and many more exchanges of knowledge with the indigenous inhabitants of the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Chagga people.

There are two most popular waterfalls in this area; Ndoro and Monjo waterfalls. There are more waterfalls to explore if you have more than a day in the area. The two, together with its accompaying activities should enough for a daytrip adventurer
